The address format is identical, a 0x one, so select the right network in your wallet before sending. Note: moving ETH onward on mainnet costs more gas than Arbitrum does. The swap goes through after Arbitrum network confirmations. The exact rate and minimum are shown right in the swap form. People usually come back to L1 for a specific reason: a deposit, a contract, or a counterparty that knows mainnet and nothing else. The deposit leg here is cheap and quick, while every move you make afterwards on mainnet costs noticeably more, which is the price of the network being asked of you. As the receiver, switch the wallet to Ethereum first and check that the balance is displayed there.

Is an account or a check on me required?
No account, and nobody is asked to prove who they are. The amount and a mainnet address are all the form wants. Automated screening applies to the funds coming into the order rather than to the sender. Where a deposit cannot be cleared, it is sent back to an address the sender controls.
Why move ETH back to mainnet?
Usually because a protocol, deposit, or counterparty only works on Ethereum mainnet, not on an L2.
The 0x address is the same, what if I pick the wrong network?
Arbitrum and Ethereum share the same 0x address format, so your wallet will accept it on either. Pick the wrong network and the funds are stuck, recoverable only by hand through support. Select the right network before sending, and message @swappsy if unsure.
Is ETH on Arbitrum and ETH on L1 one and the same asset?
One asset, two networks: on-chain, the L2 balance and the mainnet balance are separate. The move is therefore priced at the rate the form shows before you send, instead of carrying across one for one. Changing networks costs something, but the figure is locked in advance and stays put.
How long before the ETH shows up on mainnet?
The deposit side sets the pace: the swap starts after Arbitrum confirmations, and Arbitrum is one of the quick networks, so that part goes without pauses. The payout then travels on Ethereum mainnet, where speed is middling and follows the load. We do not quote exact minutes, they differ through the day.
Which network and which coin do I end up with?
ETH on Ethereum mainnet, at a plain 0x address, with no token to add anywhere. The wallet has to be switched to mainnet: the address looks the same everywhere, but a balance only shows on the selected network. Check that before you send.
What happens to my coins if the swap cannot complete?
Leave a refund address with the order, ideally the one you sent from. If the exchange cannot be carried through, the deposit returns there in the asset you sent, to an address you control, instead of hanging without an answer.
