Hosted Checkout, Plugin, or API: Which to Use for Accepting Crypto

Three ways to add crypto payment acceptance: hosted checkout, a plugin, and an API. How to choose the right one in five minutes.

Hosted Checkout, Plugin, or API: Which to Use for Accepting Crypto

The choice comes down to one question: how much time do you have for integration, and how much control do you need over the payment flow? A plugin takes an hour to set up. Hosted checkout launches without any code. The API gives you full control but requires a developer.

Hosted checkout

You get a link or a button. The customer goes to a ready-made payment page, pays, and comes back. You do not need to build or maintain anything: the page, statuses, and notifications are already there. Works well for services, digital products, and payment links sent via Telegram or email. The one trade-off: the customer leaves your site at the payment step.

Plugin

If your store runs on WooCommerce, the plugin adds crypto as one payment method inside the existing checkout. The customer stays on your site the whole time. Setup takes an evening. The limitation: it only works on the platform the plugin is built for.

API

Full control. You build the form, the page, the flow. You can embed it into any site, app, or bot. Requires a developer and time to integrate. Makes sense when the standard checkout does not fit your design or logic.

How to choose quickly

No developer, or no time right now: hosted checkout. Store on WooCommerce: plugin. Custom build with unusual requirements: API.
