How to Receive a Large Crypto Payment Without a Bank
Taking a large crypto payment from a client or partner: which coin to use, what to verify, and how to reduce risk at high amounts.

Receiving a large payment in crypto follows the same process as a small one, but at high amounts a few things deserve extra attention.
Choosing the coin
Stability matters for large settlements. USDT or USDC on Ethereum: liquid, and the fee is a few dollars regardless of the amount. USDT on Tron is cheaper, but some larger counterparties prefer ERC20. Bitcoin is used for large payments regularly, but it requires a clear rate-lock arrangement.
Locking the amount
With a stablecoin this isn't an issue: USDT is a dollar. With BTC or another volatile asset, confirm that your gateway fixes the rate at invoice creation and holds it for the duration of the transfer window.
Blockchain confirmations
Large amounts warrant more confirmations before you consider the payment final. A good gateway adjusts the confirmation threshold by amount: small payments clear quickly, large ones wait a bit longer. Confirm this setting with your gateway before the first large transfer.
Documentation and refunds
The transaction hash, address, amount, and timestamp are sufficient as proof of payment. A refund is always possible as your own decision. For large amounts, agree on the refund terms with your counterparty before the transfer happens.
