What TRC20 Means in Plain Terms
TRC20 is the token standard on the Tron network. Here's how it differs from ERC20, why people use it for USDT, and how to avoid sending to the wrong network.

TRC20 is the token standard on the Tron blockchain. When you see "USDT TRC20," it means: the USDT token running on Tron. This is the network most commonly chosen for stablecoin transfers because the fees are low and transactions confirm in seconds.
Why TRC20 over ERC20 or BEP20?
TRC20 became the default for everyday payments largely because transfers cost next to nothing. ERC20 (Ethereum) is reliable and accepted everywhere, but fees are higher. BEP20 (BNB Chain) is also cheap but less widely supported. For regular payments and exchanges, most people reach for TRC20.
Are TRC20 and ERC20 different coins?
No, the underlying asset is the same: USDT. But it exists as a separate version on each blockchain. USDT on TRC20 and USDT on ERC20 have the same value, but you cannot send one to an address on the other network. Think of it as the same product shipped by two different carriers. Sending via the wrong carrier means the package goes missing.
How do you know which network the recipient uses?
The recipient specifies the network alongside the address. If it says TRC20, send only on TRC20. Addresses give a clue by format: Tron addresses start with T, Ethereum addresses start with 0x. Before sending, always check both: the address and the network label.
What does this have to do with swapping crypto?
When you exchange Bitcoin for USDT, the service asks which network you want to receive on. You pick TRC20, and the payout arrives there. On swapss.lol the network is displayed next to the receiving address so there's no ambiguity.
