How to Move USDT Between Networks: TRC20 and ERC20
Need to move USDT from TRC20 to ERC20, or the other way around? Here is why a direct transfer does not exist and how to do it through an exchange in a few minutes.

There is no such thing as a direct USDT transfer from one network to the other. TRC20 and ERC20 are two separate blockchains. The only way to move USDT between them is through an exchange: you send on one network and receive on the other.
Why the networks are not compatible
USDT on TRC20 lives on the Tron blockchain. USDT on ERC20 lives on Ethereum. They share a name but are different tokens on different chains. A Bitcoin address cannot receive an Ethereum transaction, and the same logic applies here: a TRC20 address cannot receive an ERC20 token. The two networks simply do not see each other.
If you send USDT to the wrong network at someone else's address, the coins end up at an address whose owner was not expecting them. Getting them back depends entirely on whether that person cooperates.
How to do the swap
Open the exchange, select USDT (TRC20) to USDT (ERC20) or the reverse. Enter the amount and the recipient address on the target network. Send your USDT to the order address. You receive USDT on the network you chose.
Speed: Tron is fast, with confirmations in seconds. Ethereum takes a few minutes. The full swap usually runs 5 to 15 minutes.
Which network to hold in
For everyday holding and transfers between people, TRC20 is cheaper. Tron network fees are minimal, which is why most peer-to-peer USDT transfers run there.
ERC20 is the right choice for DeFi, for exchanges that only accept Ethereum-based tokens, or if your wallet only supports the Ethereum network.
How to get the address right
TRC20 addresses start with T. ERC20 addresses start with 0x. Before confirming, verify that the recipient address matches the network you selected. A mismatch here is the most common cause of problems in this kind of swap.
